Mental health occupational therapy for your wholebeing.

Why is mental health important?

Being mentally healthy allows individuals to cope with and adapt to life transitions and changes, and have the ability to set realistic goals and work towards reaching them. Ultimately, this leads to a sense of satisfaction with life.

Good mental health enables people to realise their potential in finding and fulfilling their roles in social, school and work life situations. Good mental health contributes to social cohesion, better social and economic welfare, solidarity as well as social justice.

How does occupation impact mental health and wellbeing?

Occupational therapists (OTs) use the term ‘occupation’ to describe the everyday activities that people engage in to occupy their time and to bring a sense of purpose and meaning to their lives.  Being able to engage in meaningful activities and tasks (occupations) can contribute to individuals experiencing improved wellbeing, having an increased sense of empowerment and living an enriched, fulfilled life.

Medicine adds days to life. Occupational therapy adds life to days.

How can a mental health occupational therapist help?

Mental health difficulties can lead to a disruption in an individual’s performance within everyday occupations and roles. Even simple and possibly mundane tasks can now seem so much more challenging. If this is your current position, an OT will work with you to explore your strengths as well as any limitations you may be experiencing, thereby increasing your ability to complete these tasks.  Furthermore, an OT will facilitate your engagement in occupations and life roles that are important and meaningful to you.
